About the Author :

He is 'Fakhr al-Arifeen' Hadrat Allama Shaykh Sayyid Shah Abd al-Hayy Jahangiri, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi. He was born in Bihar in 1276 hijri. His father was the renowned personality 'Shaykh al-Arifeen' Hadrat Sayyid Mukhlis al-Rahman Shah Jahangiri, rahmatullahi ta'a'a 'alayhi. His ancestor's came to India from Arabia and settled in Bengal.

Shaykh Abd al-Hayy travelled in pursuit of sacred knowledge to please his father and family. From initially studying in Kolkata he went to study further under the tutelage of Dr. Allama Abd al-Hayy Lacknawi, rahimahullah, at the renowned Dar al-Ulum, Firangi Mahall. He spent a total of 14 years in studying before returning home. He spent a further six years as the Principal of Madrasa Chasma-Rahmat in Ghazipur.
 

Like his father Shaykh Abd al-Hayy was highly spiritual, and spent many months and years travelling throughout India to the shrines of the Awliya Allah and seeking blessings. Many times in seclusion, he was known to do mushahidah (total devotion) as well as muraqibah (lost in contemplation) at the mausoluems of the Friends of Allah. Once upon pilgrimage to Makka, he came across Shaykh Hajji Imdadullah Muhajir Makki, rahimahullah, he was gving Dars of the Masnavi of Mawlana Rume, rahimahullah. Hajji Sahib became acquainted with Shaykh Abd al-Hayy and bestowed upon him the khilafat of the Chishti Nizami silsila.


Shaykh Abd al-Hayy passed away in 1339 After Hijri. He led a simple life, was very humble and always had time for his many visitors. He was quite strict in terms of worship, and would always try to convey to everyone he met to pray Salah in congregation (Jama'at) with him.
