About the Author :

The great Muhaddith, who propagated the knowledge of Hadith in the Indian subcontinent, Sayyiduna Shaykh ‘Abd al-Haq Muhaddith al-Dehlavi al-Qadiri, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, was born in 958 Hijri, corresponding to 1551 C.E. in “Delhi”, India.

He acquired his primary (religious) education from his father, Shaykh Sayf al-Din al-Qadiri, rahimahullah. He completed studying Sharh Shamsiyyah and Sharh ‘Aqaaid at the ages of twelve & thirteen, and more advanced books, such as Mukhtasar and Mutawwal at the age of fifteen & sixteen. (Ash’at ul Lam’aat, pp. 71). He would remain engaged in acquiring religious knowledge day and night, such was his passion.

In tariqa he did bay’at (spiritual allegiance) at the hands of his father, Shaykh Sayf al-Din al-Qadiri. Furthermore, Shaykh ‘Abd al-Wahhab al-Muttaqi, rahimahullah, granted him ijaza (permission) of four spiritual chains; Chishtiyyah, Qadiriyyah, Shadhiliyyah and Madaniyyah.

Shaykh al-Muhaqqiq spent his entire life in preserving and propagating Islam and its message. For the most part of his 94 years’ life, it was spent in studying, researching, writing and composing books. He authored approximately thirteen books, including exegeses' on ilm al-Hadith (knowledge) and usul al-Hadith (principles), out of which, the Arabic exegesis of Mishkat ul Masabih comprising 10 volumes titled Lam’aat al-Tanqeeh, and the Persian exegesis comprising 4 volumes titled Ashatul Lam’aat are considered matchless.  Along with his extensive works of hadith, his books strengthen the Aqa'id (belief) of the Ahl-us-Sunnah w'al-Jama'ah.
