This scholarly work was in response to a request by the Muslim king of India and a Islamic scholar in his own standing, Muhammad Aurangzeb.


The original title of this collection is Fatawa-e-Alamgiri, in Persian, from the name of  the sultan Muhammad Aurangzeb (d.1707 CE) who helped the Hanafi scholars to produce this work. It was then shortly after referred to as ‘al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya’ in Arabic.
