Historically, scholars have penned a lot of commentaries explaining what the exact meaning was of 'Mann Allah'; 'Confer great favour'. This collection is the written works from the sessions where Imam al-Hafiz Ibn Nasir al-Din lectured in Dar al-Hadith al-Ashrafiyyah, which was the academic institute/university of the day, explaining the above verse. The current compilation is extracted from his own handwritten material consisting of 25 majalis, (sessions).

 
Ibn Nasir al-Din talks about this verse from various perspectives such as; Qur'anic principles, theological premises/philosophical premises, principles of jurisprudence, and linguistic perspectives.

About the Author :

He is Imam Muhammad b. Abd Allah Abi Bakr b. Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Mujahid Shams al-Din al-Qaysi, al-Dimishqi, al-Shafi'i, - widely known as Ibn Nasir al-Din. He was born in Damascus in 777 hijri/ 1375. He was known for a ferocious learning appetite as he was able to quickly consume and absorb a lot of knowledge from scholars. He became an expert in Hadith and history which he wrote many works on. Some of his popular works are:

--- Mukhtasar I'rab al-Qur'an lil Safaqisi,
--- Ri' al-Fara' fi Sharh Hadith Umm Zura'
--- Badi'at al-Bayan Arjuzat fi'l Tarajim,
--- Kashf al-Qina' 'an Hal man Ad'a al-Suhbah aw lahu Ittiba'
--- Al-I'lam bima waqa'a fi Mushtabih al-Dhahabi min'al Awham.


He became the dean and the lecturer of the presticious university of then Dar al-Hadith al-Ashrafiyyah in the year 837 Hijri. He was later killed/martyred in 842 Hijri/1438 in Damascus. Imam al-Maqrizi said of him; "He sought to learn the Hadith until he became the expert of Sham, without contest. He wrote many works and Sham has not seen his like since him."
