Fatawa Badr al-Ulama : These are the verdicts of the renowned scholar, Allama Mufti Badr al-Din Ahmad Siddiqi al-Qadiri al-Razawi, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, who was an Ashiq of AalaHadrat Imam Ahmed Rida Khan al-Qadiri, alayhi ar-Rahman w'al-Ridwan.

About the Author :

He is Mufti Badr al-Din Ahmad Siddiqi al-Qadri al-Razvi al-Nuri (bin Shaykh Ashiq Ali Siddiqi [d 1396H]) and was born in a small town in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh, India in 1348 A.H/1929 C.E. He was also known as and earned the following accolades and titles: Badr al-Ulama, Badr al-Millah al Islamiyya, Badr al-Awliya and Shaykh al Fiqh.

He started studying elementary Arabic, Persian and Urdu books at a local Madrassah and then at 'Madrassah Anwar al-Ulum,' Azamgarh district where he studied under Shaykh Muhammad Khalil al-Ashrafi al-Kicchochawi, rahimahullah. In Shawwal of 1367 A.H/1948 C.E he joined Jamiya al-Ashrafiya, Mubarakpur, Azamgarh where he studied for a further 4 years. In 1371 A.H /1952 C.E he graduated from Jamiya Ashrafiya and was awarded the sanad [Certificate of Distinction] at a convocation ceremony attended by leading Ahl us Sunnah scholars.

Among his Teachers at Jamiya Dar al Ulum Ashrafiyya were :

---Hafiz al Millah; Imam Abdul Aziz Muhaddith al-Ashrafi al-Mubarakpuri, Principal of Jamiya al-Ashrafiya, Mubarakpur,
---Shaykh al-Ulama, Hafiz Qari Abdur Rauf al-Qadiri Balyavi,
---Shaykh Allama Ghulam Jilani al-Qadiri Razvi al-A'zami,
---Ra'is al Mudarrisin Allama Abdul Mustafa an-Naqshbandi al-A'zami,
---Shaykh al Qurra' Muhammad Yahya al-Qadiri.

On the advice of Hafiz al-Millah; Allama Abdul Aziz Qadiri al-Ashrafi Muhaddith al-Mubarakpuri, he started teaching at Jamiya al Ashrafiya in 1371H and was then sent to Balya [U.P], where he started teaching at a Madrassah. He went onto become Sadr al-Mudarriseen and Mufti at Dar al-Ulum Fayz al-Rasul, Baraun Sharif upon the inviation of Shaykh Muhammad Yaar Ali Chishti Latifi al-Qadiri. Badr al-Ulama brought new life to the Dar al-Ulum through his sincerity, hard work and teaching expertise. He served as the Chief Mufti of Dar al Ulum Fayz al Rasul for 19 years till 1394 H / 1975 C.E.

Badr al-Ulama while studying at Jamiya Ashrafiya, Mubarakpur gave bayah (spiritual allegiance) to Mufti al A'zam al-Hind, Imam Mustafa Rida Khan al-Qadiri al-Barkati in the Qadriyyah-Barkatiyyah tariqah. Badr al-Ulama had Khilafat in the Qadriyyah-Barkatiyyah tariqa from 'Imam al Manazirin' Mufti Muhammad Hashmat Ali Khan Qadiri Razvi Lackhnawi, rahimahullah, and also from Mufti al-A'zam al-Hind, rahimahullah. Badr al-Uluma's khulafa in the Qadriyyah-Barkatiyyah tariqa are Shaykh Mufti Kawsar Husayn al-Qadiri Razvi and Shaykh Abdus Samad al-Qadiri Razvi al-Aurangabadi al-Bihari.

Amongst the works of Badr al-Ulama, is Sawaneh Ala' Hadrat - is probably one of the most notable and renowned work of his which still serves as a standard and concise Urdu biography of Imam al Huda; AlaHadrat Imam Ahmad Raza Khan Muhaddith al-Bareilly, radi Allahu ta'ala anhu. Badr al-Ulama wrote this biography at a time when no other biographies of Ala' Hazrat were available. The Hayat e Ala' Hazrat by Malik al-Ulama Sayyid Zafaruddin al-Bihari, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, was out of print. It was praised by Mufti al A'zam; Shaykh Mustafa Rida Khan al-Qadiri, 'alayhi ar-Rahman and was written in 1383 A.H / 1963 C.E, since then many other editions have followed.

Badr al-Ulama passed away after visiting Bombay (Mumbai) on the 7th of Ramadan 1412 H/ 1992 C.E. He passed away sitting on his prayer mat after just having broken his fast. His death sent shockwaves through the scholarly circles of Ahl us Sunnah in India. From Lucknow Airport, the funeral procession passed through 7 cities where people had lined up and passed their blessings. The funeral was held at the Madrassa al-Ghawthiya Razviya, Badhiya, Basti where he had been teaching for a number of years.
