Imam al-Tahawi :

He is Imam Abu Ja'far Ahmad bin Muhammad Salamah al-Tahawi lived until 321/933. He was born in Taha in Upper Egypt in 239 AH/853 CE. A first-rate jurist, a brilliant grammarian and philologist, and an erudite man of letters, Imam al-Tahawi is best known for his eponymous creed. Known as "al-Azdi," in reference to the Yemeni clan known as "Azd al-Hajar," Imam al-Tahawi was a descendent of a people about whom the Prophet Muhammad, salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, said, "Faith is Yemeni." It is altogether fitting that the man who penned such a unifying creed descended from the land of which faith itself is a descendant. Providing seekers of knowledge with a luminous set of simple and sound statements, his creed is a beacon of certainty in the darkness of doubt and ambiguity. He passed away in 321 hijri.


Imam al-Tahawi, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, stands out not only as a prominent follower of the Hanafi school but, in view or his vast erudition and remarkable powers of assimilation, as one of its leading scholars. His monumental scholarly works, such as Sharh Ma'ani al-Athar and Mushkil al-Athar, are encyclopaedic in scope and have long been regarded as indispensable for training students of fiqh.



Imam al-Jassas :

He is Imam Ahmed bin Ali Abu Bakr Fakhrudin al-Razi, al-Jassas. He was born in Rasyi in the year of 305 Hijri. Not much of his early life is known nor about his family or lineage. He travelled for hadith and other sciences from his town to Baghdad, then to Nisapur wherein he became close companion with al-Hakim al-Nisapur. He then went back to Baghdad afterwards. He gave special emphasis on Hadith and Usul.

Imam al-Jassas passed away in Baghdad on a Sunday the seventh of Dhull Hijjah 370 hijri at the age of 65.
