The book titled ‘Revival of Religious Thought in light of the efforts of the learned scholar Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari (d. 1418 AH)’ is a scholarly analysis of the life, context and works of the luminary of the Islamic community, Justice Shaykh Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari, written in the Arabic language.
The book is based upon the MA thesis of Dr Hafiz Muhammad Munir al-Azhari presented to the al-Duwal al-‘Arabiyyah University in Cairo, Egypt. Covering 350 pages, the book delves into the social, cultural and political realities of the context of Shaykh Muhammad Karam Shah and a thorough biographical introduction is provided. It further looks at the academic efforts of the subject in areas of Qur’an exegesis, prophetic biography, orientalism and Western study of Islam.
The book is forwarded by Shaykh Dr ‘Ali Jumu’ah Muhammad, the Grand Mufti of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and also includes prefaces from Professor Dr Hasan al-Shafi‘i, former chancellor of the International Islamic University of Islamabad and currently lecturer in Islamic theology and philosophy at Cairo University as well as Al-Azhar Univeristy, and also Professor Dr Ibrahim Muhammad Ibrahim, dean of the Urdu language faculty at Al-Azhar University.
