Fath al-Rahman bi Kashf ma Yaltabas fi al-Qur'an contains commentary (tafsir) of selected Surahs' of the Qur'an written by one of the greatest scholars of his time Shaykh al-Islam Abu Yahya Zakariyya al-Ansari, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi.






He is Shaykh al Islam Abu Yahya Zakariyya ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Zakariyya al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, born in Sanika, Egypt, in 823/1420. He was known as the Shaykh of Shaykhs, he was the Shafi’i scholar of his time, a hadith master (hafiz), judge, and Qur'anic exegete. He was educated in Cairo in circumstances of extreme poverty but when his knowledge later won him fame and recognition, he was to receive many gifts and an appointment to the judiciary, which he spent to gather books, teach, and give financial help to the students with him.


He authoured many works in Sacred Law, the Sciences of the Qur'an and hadith, logic, Arabic, fundamentals of jurisprudence, and tasawwuf, and was the Shaykh of Imam Ibn Hajar al-Haytami, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi. He passed away in 926/1520 at one hundred years of age.
