The importance of honouring and serving one's parents is also known from the verses of Surah al-Luqman, where Allah the Almighty mentions the advice of Luqman to his son. He advices his son with kindness and good behavior to the parents next to tawhid, he said as Allah mentions in the Qur'an:

  "And (remember) when We took a covenant from the children of Israel, saying: 'Worship none but Allah (Alone) and be dutiful and good to parents and to kindred, and to orphans and al-Masakin (the poor)." [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 83]

Extract :

Imam al-Bukhari, Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu, narrates that Hadrat Abdullah ibn Umar, Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu, remarked; '' Buka al walidaini minal aquq '' To make parents weep is also counted in disobedience of parents. [al-Adab al-Mufrad: Vol 1, page 44.]


Hadrat Hisham ibn Hasan, Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu,  narrates that when Hadrat Hassan was asked about doing 'good' to parents and treating them benevolently, he stated; ''To do good to parents means that you spend whatever you own on them and obey them them unless they command you to do something evil.''
