Description

Bahar e Shariat (Splendour of the Sacred Way) is a compendium of Islamic rulings and legal issues ; it is a comprehensive manual of Hanafi Fiqh, that also includes proofs from the Qur'an and Sunnah along with discussions and explanations of legal rulings.

Topics in the original edition of Bahar e Shariat were loosely categorised under the book/chapter/section scheme in the pattern of standard Hanafi texts. This new translation will follow the scheme of Al-Durr al-Mukhtar in the organisation of topics, without any alterations to the actual text.

This is the first volume of Bahar e Shariat which covers the Doctrine of the Ahl al-Sunnah, it also has a chapter on heresies and heretics. Allah willing, other volumes in this series will also be translated with explanatory notes.

The Author:

Sadr-e-Shariat (“Chief of the Islamic Law”), Badr-e-Tariqat (Shining Moon of the Spiritual Mythology or Tariqah), Hadrat ‘Allama Mawlana Shah Amjad 'Ali 'Aazmi the son of Hakim Jamal al-din; the son of Mawlana Khuda Bakhsh, son of Mawlana Khairuddin (1299 AH – 1878-9) was born in the district of Ghosi in India, Mohalla “Karimuddin”, district Azamgarh. He took oath of allegiance (Baiy’at) on the hands of the great eminent scholar, al-faqih, al-Imam, al-Muhaddith, al-Mufakkir, al-Musannif, al-Mudabbir, al-Shaykh Mufti  Al-Imam Ahmad Rida Khan al-Bareilly, may Allah be pleased with him, and was soon honoured with the bestowment of Khilafat (successorship of the various mystical paths, e.g Silsila al-Qadriya, Chistiya, Suhrawardiya, Naqshbandiya, Barkatiya, and so on).

Imam Amjad Ali, rahimahullah, derived affectionate blessings and guidance from his Chief Mentor (shaykh), and quickly rose to the heights and ranks of perfection. He had a great inclination towards Tafsir, Hadith and Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence). He had a knack of explaining detailed, but complex Islamic rulings of many different topics, from the tip of his tongue.

In recognition of his multi dimensional acquisition of the various branches and sciences of knowledge, Imam Ahmed Rida, the Great Reviver of Islam, has conferred the title “Sadr al-Shari’ah” to him during his stay at Dadun (District of Aligarh), due to his proficiency and skill of explaining complex and difficult passages in a simple and easy to understand language. Bahar-e-Shari'at is that universally acclaimed book of Hadrat Sadr al-Shari’ah, which can be justifiably called the Encyclopedia of the Hanafi Islamic Jurisprudence.
