Description

Al-Ajwibah al-Fadilah lil As'ilat al-'Ashrat al-KamilahTowards Understanding Hadith - 'Exploring Ten Key Issues' ... In 1291/ 1875CE, during his stay in Hyderabad Deccan, Imam al-Laknawi, may Allah have mercy upon his soul, responded to ten questions concerning the hadith sciences posed by the 'Ahl-e-Hadith scholar' ʿMuḥammad Ḥusayn al-Lahawri, which resulted in this indispensable work.

The text emphasises the importance of the chain of narration (isnad) in all religious matters and discusses weak hadiths, their conditions, and implementation. It also evaluates various collections of hadiths and Qur’anic exegeses, assessing the authority of narrations within them. It offers a framework for resolving conflicting scholarly verdicts concerning hadith grading and narrator analysis and addresses how to navigate ostensibly conflicting hadith texts. Additionally, it explores the legal implications when a Companion does not implement a hadith he narrates and tackles situations where a Companion’s word or deed contradicts a Prophetic hadith.

The work’s value is enhanced by the teeming annotations from Shaykh ʿAbd al-Fattaḥ Abu Ghuddah, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi. It is a crucial resource for anyone utilising hadiths in any capacity and fills a gap in English-language literature on these topics.

Imam 'Abd al-Hayy al-Lacknawi [1264 - 1304 after Hijri]

He is 'Abu l-Hasanat 'Abd al-Hayy bin Muhammad 'Abd al-Haleem al-Ansari al-Lakhnawi (1264-1304 AH / 1848-1887 CE). He was the author of many famous works and a renowned scholar of his time. He was born in Banda, India and was a descendend from the Sahabah - Sayyidina Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, radi Allahu ta'ala anhu.  His predecessors emigrated from Madinah Munawwarah to Hirat, then to Lahore, Delhi and finally to Sihala and Firangi Mahal near Lucknow.

Imam 'Abd al-Hayy memorised the Noble Qur'an at the age of ten. He studied some Persian books under his learned father and continued learning many sciences, so much so that he began teaching many of the books he had learnt himself under various scholars. The Mufti of Makkah, Shaykh Ahmad ibn Zain Dahlan, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, granted him permission for all isnad (chain of narration) from Al-Hidayah of Marghinanai as well as what he had learnt from all his teachers.

He passed away in Rabi ul Awwal 1304h. at the young age of 39 and was buried in the graveyard of his ancestors.
