Description :

Al-Sa'diyyah - sharh al-Risalah al-Shamsiyyah : This is al-Imam Masud bin Umar al-Taftazani's [d.792h] rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, commentary on the treatise Risalah al-Shamsiyyah which was authored by Imam al-Qazwini, rahimahullah. This edition is also accompanied with a sharh on the sermon of al-Qutbi by Shaykh Sayyid Sharif al-Jurjani [d.816h], rahimahullah.

This is a classical text on the science of logic [ilm al-mantiq] as taught in the Dars e Nizami curriculum.

Compiled by Allama Hafiz Ghulam Hayder Kharabadi.

Imam al-Qazwini :

He is Imam Najm al-Din Umar bin 'Ali al-Qazwini al-Katibi, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi.  Al-Qazwini al-Katibi was a Persian philosopher and logician of the Shafi`i school. He was a student of Athir al-Dīn al-Abhari. His most important works are a treatise on logic, Al-Risala al-Shamsiyya, and one on metaphysics and the natural sciences, Hikmat al-'Ayn.

Al-Qazwini helped establish the Maragha observatory along with Nasir al-Din al-Tusi and Qutb al-Din al-Razi and other astronomers.

His work on logic, the al-Risalah al-Shamsiyya (Logic for Shams al-Din), was commonly used as the first major text on logic in madrasahs, right up until the present day and is "perhaps the most studied logic textbook of all time". Al-Katibi Al-Qazwini's logic was largely inspired by the formal Avicennian (Ibn Sina) system of temporal modal logic, but is more elaborate and departs from it in several ways. While Avicenna considered ten modalities and examined six of them, al-Katibi considers many more modalised propositions and examines thirteen which he considers 'customary to investigate'. Al-Katibi al-Qazwini passed away in 675 hijri  / 1276 CE.

About Imam al-Taftazani :

He is Imam Sad al-Din Masud ibn Umar al-Taftazani. Imam al-Taftazani, may Allah have mercy upon him, was a renowned scholar from a distinguished scholarly family, born in the village of Taftazan in the northeastern Persian province of Khurasan. He was of the Hanafi school in matters of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and a Maturidi with regard to issues of Aqidah (Islamic creed).

He was author of numerous works on Arabic grammar, rhetoric [balaghah], theology [kalam], logic [mantiq], law [shar'iah], and Qur'anic exegesis [tafsir]. His commentaries on well-known works in various fields of Islamic sciences were and are still widely used in madrasahs and Islamic seminaries. He passed away in Samarqand in 1390 Common Era, being 792 After Hijri.

Imam al-Jurjani

He is al-Shaykh al-Imam Mir al-Sayyid al-Sharif 'Ali b. Muhammad al-Jurjani, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, [740 - 816 AH] who was born in the city of Jurjan on the 22nd of Shaban in the year 740AH.

Under the guardianship of such reputable luminaries, he became known by two epithets; “al-Sayyid al-Sanad” and “Mir Sayyid”.
