Description :
Sunan al-Darimi - this work is a hadith collection considered to be among the prominent nine collections : the Al-Kutub al-Sittah, Al-Muwatta and the Musnad of Imam Ahmad. It is also sometimes referred as the Musnad al-Darimi. It is written by Imam `Abd Allah ibn `Abd al-Rahman al-Darimi, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi (181H–255H).
Imam al-Darimi has arranged his collection by subject matter in the manner of a book of Sunan, (unlike the Musnads) like the Sunan Ibn Majah. Al-Darimi transmitted these hadiths to `Isa ibn `Umar al-Samarqandi; date of death unknown, but presumably after 293 AH. Thereafter it passed to: `Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hamawiya al-Sarkhasi (293–381 AH), `Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Muzaffar al-Dawudi "Jamal al-Islam" (374–467 AH), and Abu'l-Waqt `Abd al-Awwal ibn `Isa ibn Shu`ayb al-Sijizzi (458–553 AH).
Imam al-Darimi :
He is the Imam, the Mujaddid, the Muhaddith, 'Abd Allah b 'Abd al-Rahman b. Fadhal b. Bahram b. 'Abd al-Samad at-Tamimi ad-Darimi, al-Samarqandi. He was born 181 Hijri. He has heard and transmitted from many scholars and also many others have transmitted from him, among them being the illustrious Imams of Hadith : al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abi Da'ud, Tirmidhi, Nasa'i, 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmed and many others.
His peers had nothing but good things to say about him. He was recognised as the Imam of his time in Hadith, one who thoroughly categorised the encyclopaedic narrators. He passed away in Samarqand, modern day Iran in 255 Hijri.
