Abu Muhammad Abd al-Malik Ibn Hisham was born in Basra and was known to have studied in Kufa. He is famous for editing the earliest known biography of the Prophet Muhammad, salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, (Sirat al-Rasullullah) written by Ibn Ishaq (d.151 AH), which has sadly been lost.
Ibn Hisham gained a name as a grammarian and student of language & history in Egypt. His family was of Himyarite origin and he also wrote other works. He passed away in Egypt (d. 218 AH.).
