The
Mishkat shareef has enjoyed wide popularity in the world of Islamic learning Since 516 AH when it was first compiled by Imam Wali 'ud-Din Abu 'Abd 'allah Mahmud al-Khatib al-Tabrizi, [d.741h]
may Allah be pleased with him.
The Collection is divided into 29 - twenty-nine books (
kutub) and each book is divided into several chapters (
abwab). Thereafter each chapter is further divided into three sections (
fasl). The
Mishkat shareef has enjoyed wide popularity in the world of Islamic learning since 516 AH when it was first compiled by Al-Tabrizi. Most of the
hadith are from the
Sahih Sittah, (the six authentic
hadith Books).
Wali 'ud-Din Abu Abd 'Allah Mahmud Al-Tabrizi,
rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, was a renowned
muhaddith (scholar of the science of
Ahadith) of his time. He was well-versed in the intricacies of the Arabic language and rhetorics. It is unfortunate, however, that not much is known about his life. Al-Tabrizi is to be commanded for successfully improving upon Al-Baghawi's 'Masabih al-Sunnah.'
Widely considered one of the most reliable and authentic collections of
ahadith.
