About the Author:
He is Imam Yusuf bin Hasan bin Ahmad 'Abd al-Hadi al-Maqdisi al-Dimashqi al-Hanbali [d.909h] rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi. He was born in approximately 840 AH, in Damascus. His instructors in al-Qur'an include: Shaykh Ahmad al-Misri al-Hanbali, Shaykh Muhammad al-'Askari, 'Umar al-'Askari and Zayn al-Din al-Habbal, may Allah be pleased with them all. His instructors in fiqh include: Shaykh Taqi al-Din al-Jara'i, Shaykh Taqi al-Din Qundis, Shaykh 'Ala al-Din al-Mardawi, Shaykh Burhan al-Din ibn Muflih and Shaykh Burhan al-Din al-Zar'i. His instructors in hadith include: Shaykh Ibn al-'Iraqi, Shaykh ibn al-Balisi, Shaykh al-Jammal ibn al-Harastani, Shaykh al-Salah ibn abi 'Omar, and Shaykh ibn Nasr al-Din – the muhaddith of Sham.
He received ijazas from: Shaykh al-Hafiz Ibn Hajr, Shaykh al-Taqi al-Shamni, Shaykh al-Shihab al-Hijazi, Shaykh al-Burhan al-Ba'li, Shaykh Abu 'Abd Allah bin Fahd, Shaykh Qasim bin Qatluba'a al-Misri, and Shaykh al-Jammal ibn Nazi al-Sahiyya. He authored well over 80 individual works in various disciplines, including Qur'anic exegesis, grammar, morphology, and rhetoric. But his greatest contributions were in hadith and fiqh.
He passed away in 909 After Hijri. May Allah grant him His mercy.
