Book Description :

The Lives of Man is, like all the books of Imam al-Haddad, may Allah be pleased with him, remarkable for its succinctness and clarity. In this he was undoubtedly  assisted by being a latecomer in Muslim history, as he was able to draw on the works of Imam al-Ghazali, may Allah be pleased with him, to be of especial value, and this is reflected both in the content and the texture of his work.

Imam al-Haddad's purpose in the Lives of Man is to remind Muslims of the fact of Death and the Judgement, but it is also written to help us to remind ourselves. It is not simply a list of the delights and sufferring which lie beyond death, or a moralising condemnation of sin. It is far more intelligent, and far more human.

Imam al-Haddad, may Allah be pleased with him, explains that every human being passes through the "lives:" before conception, life in the world, life in the grave, the Resurrection, and finally, the Garden or the Fire. A complete Muslim must be aware of each of these if he is to be sufficiently prepared for eternal life.

  • *** What happens after death?
  • *** Who are "Munkar and Nakir?"
  • *** What will Heaven and Hell be like?
  • *** What signs should we expect before the Day of Judgement?
  • *** Who is the Dajjal?
  • *** When will the Mahdi appear?

These and many questions are answered, on the basis of the Qur'an and Hadith, in this fascinating book.

Imam 'Abdallah al-Haddad, may Allah be pleased with him, is widely believed to have been the spiritual "renewer" of the twelfth Islamic century. A direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, his sanctity and direct experience of God are clearly reflected in his writings, poetry, and books.
