Description :

One of the first English translations of the poems of the great sufi saint of Punjab.

Shaykh Sultan Bahu, may Allah have mercy upon him, [1629-1691CE] was a Sufi Master and poet who founded the Sarwari Qadiri order. Sultan Bahu belonged to the Awan tribe who are descendants of Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, the Prophet's, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, son-in-law.

Like many other Sufis of the Indian sub-continent Sultan Bahu was a prolific writer. However, it is his punjabi poetry that made him a household name. His poems are sung in many genres of Sufi music, including qawalis and kafis. His Persian ghazals are not well known but are of equal significance. Both in this collection are well-represented.
