Asking the Prophet's, alayhim as-Salaam, and Saints (Awliya-Allah), Radi Allahu ta'ala anhum, for assistance is permissible when it is believed that the help is actually from Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, Himself, and these personalities are merely the reflections of His assistance. Muslims ascribe to this belief alone and there is no ignorant person who deems a Saint (Wali-Allah) to be Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala.
