Description :

The generation of men who accepted Islam with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, were seekers of truth. They stood by him through unimaginable difficulties to give human civilisation a new and dignified way of life. They were revolutionaries at a time when humankind was craving for liberation. Men Around the Prophet contains stories of these heroic men.

"That was the teacher of mankind and the last of the Prophets. He was the light seen by the people, and he lived amongst them just as any other man. Then, after his departure from this world, he was seen by the whole world as a preserver of truth. Now, while we meet a number of his noble Companions on the following pages of this book - where we will be astonished by their faith, their sacrifices, and the good cause they set their lives for - the reason for their marvellous lives will be clear before us. This reason was nothing but the light they followed in Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Almighty Allah combined in him the vision of truth and self-dignity, which illuminated the destiny of Mankind."---Muhammad, The Light that they Followed.

This comprehensive volume includes the stories of Sixty of the most important and influential Companions of the Prophet: men who lived and worked beside him to create the legacy that we encounter today. The stories are preceded by a short and inspiring biography of the Last Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, highlighting his virtues and his sacrifices.

These biographical snapshots emphasise the strength and faith of these men — an inspiring read for all Muslims.

Khalid Muhammad Khalid was a popular Egyptian writer on religious and political topics, and the author of more than thirty books and numerous newspaper and magazine articles. He received his theological degree from the faculty of shariah at al-Azhar University in 1947, and then gained a teaching certificate, also from al-Azhar. He taught Arabic language, and then worked in the Egyptian Ministry of Education and in the Ministry of Culture.

Later he wrote a number of books on thr Prophet Muhammad and other heroes of early Islam. In his book al-Dawla fi al-Islam (The State in Islam), published in 1981, he revised his earlier secularist position, stating that Islam does have civil principles that should be applied by the state, although it does not prescribe a "religious government." According to Khalid, parliamentary democracy is the contemporary application of the Islamic principle of shura (consultation)
