Description :

This is an abridged translation of volume eight of Ibn Sa’d’s Kitab at-Tabaqat al-Kabir. This deals exclusively with the women who met the Beloved Messenger of Allah, Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, or transmitted from him.

The Tabaqat is a great storehouse of information which gives the reader a vivid taste and feel for what the people of Madina must have been like and how extraordinary they were. It makes the Companions of the Beloved Prophet, Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, come alive for the reader.

Abu 'Abdullah Muhammad Ibn Sa'd, 'alayhi ar-rahman, is one of the greatest authorities on Muslim biography. His collection, the Kitab at-Tabaqat al-Kabir, is one of the most important in and earliest surviving biographical collections of narrations. Ibn Sa'd was born in 148H / 764CE in Basra, and died in 230H / 845CE.

Ibn Sa'd moved to Baghdad where he studied under various people, especially Muhammad ibn 'Umar al-Waqidi. He also visited Kufa and Madina in the course of his quest for knowledge. Many authorities have testified to his reliability.
