The generally accepted view is that the Isra' and Mir'aj occurred on the same night, and took place when the Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, was awake, not in a dream. The Beloved Prophet, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, travelled phsically, not metaphorically.


During his ascent to Heaven, he met with earlier Prophets, Peace be upon them, and saw some of the scenes of the other side of the world. At this time the obligatory daily prayers (Salaah) were enjoined upon the Muslim Ummah, and according to many (ijma) scholars, the Beloved Prophet, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, Saw his Lord.
