The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them all, were first generation Muslims who were closely associated with the public events surrounding the life of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. They were the living embodiment of Islam and the driving force of Islamic history throughout the Seventh century of the Common Era. The most enduring contributions of the Companions were the preservation and transmission of the message of Islam and the expansion of the territorial boundaries of the Islamic state into a far flung Empire across the Middle East.


Although the names of these pioneers of Islam have become household words in the Islamic world, there are no reliable books in any modern language. Hence this short Encyclopaedia of the biographies of the Companions, who taught a new vision of life, a new methof worship, new principles of war and peace as well as legislation and government.
