Description

The Ranks of Saints in Islam : 'Hadiths on the Qutb, Ghawth & Abdaal' - The Holy Qur'an explicitly mentions the Saints (awliya), saying: Behold! Verily for the friends of Allah (Awliya Allah) there is no fear, nor shall they grieve (Qur'an 1:26).

Therefore we must all agree that there are Awliya in Islam. The early scholars of Hadith were very interested in the topic and gathered not only Hadith but even non-Prophetic reports (athar) about their states and the miracles given to them by Allah, in order to honour them; called karamaat - and even the recorded dreams about them.

This blessed treatise by the saintly polymath Imam al-Suyuti, may Allah be pleased with them, is a succinct presentation of the reports regarding the Awliya with Hadith-referencing done by the meticulous Hadith scholar, Shaykh Abdullah al-Ghumari, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi

The Author:

Imam Jalal al-Din as-Suyuti
: `Abd al-Rahman ibn Kamal al-Din Abi Bakr,  Jalal al-Din al-Misri al-Suyuti al-Shafi`i al-Ash`ari, also known as Ibn al-Asyuti (849-911), the mujtahid imam and renewer of the tenth Islamic century, foremost hadith master, jurist, Sufi, philologist, and historian, he authored works in virtually every Islamic science.

Born to a Turkish mother and non-Arab father and raised as an orphan in Cairo, he memorized the Qur'an at eight, then several complete works of Sacred Law, fundamentals of jurisprudence, and Arabic grammar; after which he devoted himself to studying the Sacred Sciences under about a hundred and fifty shaykhs.  A giant among contemporaries, he remained alone, producing a sustained output of scholarly writings until his death at the age of sixty-two. He was buried in Hawsh Qawsun in Cairo.

He is Shaykh Abu al-Fadl 'Abd-Allah al-Siddiq al-Ghumari, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, a renowned hadith scholar, jurist and theologian of his time. He was the son of the grand scholar Abu 'Abd-Allah Shams al-Din Muhammad, rahimahullah. He was born in the year 1328AH (1910CE) in the city of Tangier, Morocco. He was the brother of al-Hafidh Abu al-Fayd Ahmad al-Siddiq al-Ghumari, the Grand Scholar and Shaykh Abd al-Aziz al-Siddiq al-Ghumari.

At the orders of his father he traveled to Fas (Fez) to seek the knowledge at the University of al-Qurawiyyin, He studied all the major texts with the renowned schoars of his time. During his stay in Fas he met as-Sayyid Mohammad the son of Ja'far al Kattani, rahimahullah, and was authorised to narrate by as-Sayyid Mahdi al 'Azuzi, rahimahullah. He returned to Tangier, but soon travelled to continue his studies in Egypt at Al-Azhar University.

It is known that Shaykh Abd-Allah had over 50 teachers/shaykhs and is thought to have compiled over 60 works on various sciences. He passed away in the year 1993 (being 1413 After Hijri) and is laid to rest in Tangier.
