Description :
Al-Arba'in al-Nawawiyya [includes an abridgement of Imam an-Nawawi's own Commentary].
Imam al-Nawawi’s, may Allah be pleased with him, 40 Hadith (al-Araba'in) have come to be known as the most comprehensive, and holistic, compilation / collection of hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that convey the essence of Islam.
Imam al-Nawawi’s collection of 40 Hadiths is one of the most important collections of hadiths we have today. He actually compiled a total of Forty-Two [42] hadiths for this collection, not 40.
Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, granted him blessing and success in his work so that he could make great contributions to Islam before passing away at a relatively young age.
The Imam was a scholar in many different disciplines of Islamic studies. The vastness of his works in these different areas is so great that if an individual decides to study fiqh, hadith, spirituality, or Qur'an; one would need to pass through Imam al- Nawawi. Along with the 40 Hadiths, he authored Riyad al-Saliheen, Al-Adhkar, and commentary of Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhari.
Abu Zakariyya Yahya Ibn Sharaf Al-Nawawi
"Intention is the measure for rendering actions true, so that, where intention is sound, action is sound, and where it is corrupt, then action is corrupt."
Imam Yahya Abu Zakariyya Muhyi al-Din b. Sharaf al-Nawawi, may God grant him mercy, was one of the most celebrated scholars in Islamic history. Imam al-Dhahabi, a great master of hadith, referred to Imam al-Nawawi with the following honorary titles: the great legal authority of the Prophetic community (Mufti al-Umma), the authority in Prophetic tradition (Shaykh al-Islam al-Hafiz), the head jurist of the Shafiʿi school (al-Faqih al-Shafiʿi); and he described him as an ascetic (zahid), and one of the towering authorities (ahad al-aʿlam). He reported that his shaykh, Ibn Farah, said: “Shaykh Muḥyi al-Din [al-Nawawi] reached three high stations, each of which would suffice to make its possessor someone people would travel to see: knowledge, abstinence, and enjoining good and forbidding evil.”
