Description :

Shashi’s Principles of Hanafī Fiqh is a plain English translation and explanation of the classical primer in principles of Islamic jurisprudence, Uṣūl ush-Shāshī. It presents the themes, terminologies and discussions of the original Arabic text in English, alongside an overview and chapter summaries.

It is ideal for students with a basic grasp of Arabic grammar and familiarity with traditional Islamic texts. The material is introduced at a level that can be followed comfortably and speaks directly to students and not beyond them. It is self-instructive and aims to be an indispensable aide for students of the disciple. Click on images below for sample pages.

Usul ush-Shashi is a significant and vitally important introductory text that has been studied and taught for centuries. It has been featured in the classical Islamic Sciences syllabus, Darse Nizami, since its inception and still enjoys widespread recognition. It is often the first text a student of Darse Nizami and Traditional Islamic Sciences encounters on the subject.

About the Author :

Imam Nizam ad-Din ash Shashi, may Allah have mercy upon him. Hailing from the Islamic hinterland of Transoxiana (ma wara' an-nahr), Shashi is credited to have written this very successful opus. Legend says that he wrote the book at the age of fifty and called it Kitab al-Khamsin (The Book of Fifty). Despite little being known of the author, Allah Most High has accepted his work and it is widely studied and read throughout the Muslim World.
