The author has gathered accounts from various sources in both the Prophetic sira (biography) and Hadith collections. Only a small number of documents about children's interactions with the Prophet have survived. The reports that do remain, however, point to the truth of the matter, and so it is with these small gems that we start our exploration.  


The findings offer insight into these children's lives with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in their early, later and final stages of childhood. These accounts can provide parents with actual Prophetic examples on how to interact with their own children so that they can grow to be righteous members of society.


The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had the best of interactions with the children around him. He lived alongside them and he would guide them and he would teach them. He would hug them, kiss them, pat their heads and joke with them. He would smile with them, he would place them on his shoulders or they would join him as he rode his animals on journeys.
 

This work is divided into five chapters; the First Chapter describes the childhood of the Prophet and the Second Chapter is devoted to the children who were raised at the time of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The Third Chapter relates to the children of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and how he raised and cared for them. The penultimate Chapter describes the young Sahaba's (Companion's) who grew up around the Prophet. Finally, the Last Chapter contains Prophetic hadiths on childhood and Islam's outlook with regard to childhood and Islam's outlook with regard to children.
   

About the Author :

Dr. Nizar Abazah is a Syrian writer and novelist, born in Damascus, who holds a PhD in modern Arabic literature, and a BA in Arabic and French literature. He has worked in the education sector and in the Arabic Language Academy, and at Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage in Dubai. He has authored more than forty books in literature, history, heritage and translation.
