Description :

'' Sharh Wiqayah by Ubaydullah Ibn Mas’ud, rahmatullahi 'alayhi, is a commentary on his grandfather; Mahmud ibn Sadr al-Sharia’s, rahmatullahi 'alayhi,Wiqayat al-Riwaya fi Masail al-Hidayah’, which is a commentary on Al-Marghinani’s Al-Hidayah. Thus, there exists a chain connecting together: Al-Quduri, Sharh Wiqayah and Al-Hidayah, where each book complements or elaborates on the explanations of the other. In chronological terms, Quduri was authored first, followed by Hidayah and thereafter Sharh Wiqayah.

It is established therefore that ‘Sharh Wiqayah’ is a Sharah of ‘Wiqayat al-Riwaya fi Masail al-Hidayah’, which is a Sharah of ‘Hidayah’.

The difference between Imam Quduri’s Quduri/ Imam Nasafi’s Kanz ud Daqaaiq and Sharh Wiqayah is that Quduri focuses on relating Hanafi Fiqh solely in terms of rules and regulations, whereas Sharh Wiqayah contains both the rules and an in depth explanation of the methodology through which the Hanafi rules were established, as well as a commentary on the opinions of the 3 esteemed imams; Imam Malik, Imam Ahmed and Imam Shafi’i and the Hanafi scholars: Imam Abu Yusuf and Imam Muhammad, may Allah have mercy upon them all.

Students studying Ibn Mas’ud’s Sharh Wiqayah are given the benefit of an insight into Usul Fiqh (the principles of Islamic law) and how these principles are applied in order to establsih the Hanafi rules and regulations (Fiqh) that govern every part of a Muslim’s life, from Taharah (purity) to Nikah (marriage).

Hence Fiqh and Usul Fiqh are inseparable, and go hand in hand, as is the case in ‘Sharh Wiqayah’, because Fiqh is the body of Islamic Law which is extracted from/using the four sources: Qur'an, Hadith, Ijma and Qiyaas, all of which are studied in the Principles of Islamic Law (Usul). One can not expect to understand the Law (Fiqh) without an understanding of the principles (Usul) behind the Law.'' ---Sharh Wiqayah BlogPost.
