Description :

This is the 'Dars e Nizami' edition of the famous Hadith book on the 'Hanafi' school of fiqh, Al-Muwatta Imam Muhammad bin Hasan Shaybani, rahimahullah. This work is based on the Muwatta of Imam Malik, with added commentary and narrations by Imam Muhammad Shaybani (132-189 AH), who is considered the chief transmitter of the Hanafi Madhhab.

This edition includes the Hashiya al-Taleeq al-Mumajjad of Shaykh 'Abd al-Hayy al-Lacknawi, rahimahullah. It is a decent two colour computerised print by Bushra Printers, Karachi.

Imam Muhammad al-Shaybani, may Allah be pleased with him, : He is Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Farqad al-Shaybani. Muhammad was born in Wasit in 132 AH, and grew up in Kufa. He was a pupil of Imam Abu Hanifah, May Allah be pleased with him.

Imam Shafi’i, rahmatullahi ta'a' alayhi, said, “I have not seen anyone more eloquent than him. I used to think when I saw him reciting the Qur’an that it was as if the Qur’an had been revealed in his language.” He also said, “I have not seen anyone more itelligent than Muhammad ibn al-Hasan.” Imam al-Dhahabi, rahimahullah, said, “He narrated from Malik ibn Anas and others, and he was one of the great oceans of knowledge and fiqh, and he was strong [when he narrated] from Malik.” Imam Muhammad, rahimahullah, said, “I stood at Malik’s door for three years and I heard [the Muwatta’] from him [with] more than seven hundred hadith.” He died in Rayy in 189 AH.

Imam 'Abd al-Hayy al-Lacknawi [1264 - 1304 after Hijri]

He is 'Abu l-Hasanat 'Abd al-Hayy bin Muhammad 'Abd al-Haleem al-Ansari al-Lakhnawi (1264-1304 AH / 1848-1887 CE). He was the author of many famous works and a renowned scholar of his time. He was born in Banda, India and was a descendend from the Sahabah - Sayyidina Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, radi Allahu ta'ala anhu.  His predecessors emigrated from Madinah Munawwarah to Hirat, then to Lahore, Delhi and finally to Sihala and Firangi Mahal near Lucknow.

Imam 'Abd al-Hayy memorised the Noble Qur'an at the age of ten. He studied some Persian books under his learned father and continued learning many sciences, so much so that he began teaching many of the books he had learnt himself under various scholars. The Mufti of Makkah, Shaykh Ahmad ibn Zain Dahlan, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, granted him permission for all isnad (chain of narration) from Al-Hidayah of Marghinanai as well as what he had learnt from all his teachers.

He passed away in Rabi ul Awwal 1304h. at the young age of 39 and was buried in the graveyard of his ancestors.
