Description :

Tafsir Madarik al Tanzil wa Haqa'iq al Taw'il - this tafseer is one of the earliest versions of the combined works of Imam al-Baydawi's Tafsir and Imam Zamakhshari's Tafsir al-Khashshaf.

Imam al-Nasafi left much of Khashshaf's Mu'tazili opinions and took much of his lexicon and desriptive analysis of the verses. As such he rendered and kept of his opinions that agreed with that of the Ahl al-Sunnah. In it the Imam heavily defends the fiqh aspects of the Hanafi madhhab and refutes much of those who might have used the verses of Ahkam otherwise.

An excellent source for Hanafi and Matarudi students as well as those studying the Lughah aspects of the Qur'an.

About the Author :

He is Imam Abu al-Barakat Hafiz al-Din Abd Allah b. Ahmed bin Muhammad al-Nasafi, al-Hanafi, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi. He was born in town called Idhaj, in Samarkand and he passed away there as well in the year 710 Hijri. He travelled to Iraq for knowledge and learned a great deal from the scholars before returning to his home town.

He was an expert on Usul, Fiqh, Kalam, Hadith being an 'Imam' in all those fields. He was an ascetic and didn't value much of the world and lived a humble life. He was raised in an envirement of scholarly upbringing. Imam al-Lacknawi called him "The full fletched Imam, head of jurisprudence and Usul, expert in Hadith sciences and its finery" while Ibn Hajar said of him "the expert [scholar] of the world".

Amongst his teachers were the likes of;

   *** Shams al-A'imah al-Kurdi, Muhammad b. Abd al-Sattar (d. 642),
   *** Badr al-Din Khawahir Zadah, Muhammad b. Muhamud (d. 651),
   *** Hamid al-Din al-Dharir, Ali b. Muhammad (d. 666),

Imam Abu al-Barakat al-Nasafi also had many popular students;

   *** Al-Hussayn b. Ali b. Hajjaj Hisam al-Din al-Safnaqi (d 714),
   *** Muhammad b. Muhammad al-Jayli.

Some historians have disagreed on the exact date of his passing but Al-Lacknawi and al-Baghdadi, Qutluwbugha and others have accepted the date of 710 Hijri while ibn Hajar believes it to be 701.
