Dr. Abd'ur Rahman Rafat Pasha was born in 1920 in a village called Arayha - which is situated in northern Syria. He attended the Madrassa Khusraviya of Aleppo which was the oldest Islamic Shari'a school in Syria. He then went onto study at the Al-Azhar University in Cairo where he attained the Higher Certificate in Islamic Usul along with B.A. in Arabic literature from the King Fuad College. Later, he was awarded a Master’s degree and Doctorate from the newly named Cairo University.

He began his professional career as a teacher and was then promoted to the Senior Inspector of Arabic language, and then Manager at the Zahiriya Library, in Damascus. He also worked as a visiting Professor at Damascus University. Throughout his long life he has been devoted to the language of the Noble Qur'an as well as the promotion of Islamic literature.
