'Muslim Women's Attire & Adornment : This is Volume Four in the series Women's Emancipation during the Prophet's Lifetime.' This is the author's abridged version of his longer work of the same title Tahrir al-Mar'ah fi 'Asr al-Risalah; it illustrates the status of the Muslim woman in Islam which differs from what is assumed in society today.
Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, established complete equality between men and women as he said, "Women are full sisters of men". Yet both have their respective special functions. This hadith establishes the basic principle of full equality between man and woman, with a measure of specialisation in certain areas.
Volume Four : In Volume 4, the author shows that Islam honours women in all that it makes permissable for a Muslim woman to wear and with what she may adorn herself.
The emancipation of women cannot be complete unless it is coupled with the emancipation of men. This can only be accomplished by drawing our social values from the Qur’an and the Sunnah. In this 3rd volume, the author shows that mixed social life was the pattern in the early Muslim society established by the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. This author's study of authentic sayings of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, will illustrate the status of the Muslim woman that is greatly different from what is assumed in most Muslim societies today.
Several studies identify that Islam gave women their independent status as well as equality with men. However, very little had been written on how this was implemented in real life. His review of the Hadith anthologies gave Abu Shuqqah the idea that a thorough study of the transformation the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, brought about in the status of women and in male-female relationships was needed and so he decided to undertake this task. Essentially, he hoped to highlight the role, status and activity of Muslim women during the Prophet’s lifetime and how women’s emancipation was duly fulfilled.
This book takes Muslims back to the way charted by the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, adding nothing and leaving nothing out. It is a book of documents, written by a person who is keen to present his faith in its true colours.
