Description :

The impulse to pray is among the most universal and innate of human behaviours, asking God to help, relieve, pardon, give, soothe, protect, guide, forgive, support, save, and bless. Whether said in silence or uttered aloud, with others or alone, prayer has always been at the core of spiritual wellness, the lasting answer to an uncompromising condition of life that the author, Dr. Ahmad Zaki Hammad, alludes to in his memorable introduction to the great refuge of prayer:

"The objects of our wants and fears far surpass the limits of human genius,
energy, and mortal life. The sum of all that we need and desire--spiritual
or material, essential or superfluous--simply exceeds our ability to attain it.
What, then, is one to do? The believer turns to his or her Creator in prayer.
The response is natural. Whether moved by need or hope, or faced with
misfortune or danger, people instinctively call upon God."

Prayer is at the centre of the religion of Islam, the marrow of the Muslim way of life. For many in the English-speaking world, however, this face of Islam is virtually unknown. The most comprehensive volume of supplications from the Qur'an (the Muslim scripture) and the Prophet of Islam, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in the English language, Lasting Prayers of the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad presents a lucid, bold, and moving account of the Qur'an's "heroes of prayer," especially the Prophets (including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus), as well as believing men and women, and angels. Their prayers are presented in the context of their missions and circumstances and bear extraordinary relevance to our world and lives today.

Also, Lasting Prayers compiles the daily and special supplications of the Prophet Muhammad,  may Allah bless him and grant him peace,--freshly translated in lucid and stirring language. These supplications offer an awe-invoking glimpse of a great man and Prophet and his intimate relationship with God. The Prophet's, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, private and public prayers are an untapped wellspring of mercy and renewal for the contemporary, searching soul. Inspiring, instructive, and insightful, Lasting Prayers of the Quran & the Prophet Muhammad is a fulfilling collection of and commentary on the most enduring and sincere supplications ever uttered. It is one of those rare volumes that one may turn to often and from which one shall invariably come away hopeful and refreshed. This book consists of two parts.

---Part [1]. "Prayers of the Qur'an," introduces supplications from the Qur'an that compare in breadth with the subjects the Book itself addresses: God, reward and punishment, the seen and the unseen, this world and the Hereafter, life and death--and all that these entail. Each of the four chapters of Part One highlights the outstanding characteristics of the prayers appearing therein, while introducing those who uttered them. It addresses the common character of these believers, as well as the efficacy of their prayers in general and the often dramatic impact their prayers had on their conditions and on the course of history. In this way, one sees that prayer is the special "essence of worship," as the Prophet,  may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, which keeps humankind in balance with the entire worshipping universe. With each prayer is a commentary that brings its historical circumstances to light and reflects upon the occasion of its revelation to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, or some significant moment or statement that he made with respect to it. Although these prayers have specific contexts, they are universal and are meant to be recited as such.

---Part [2]. "Prayers for All Times and Occasions," records the various daily and common supplications of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to illustrate his perfect reliance upon his Lord and to draw us, through the study of them, closer to his worshipful way of life and to God, Most High. This part contains twelve general categories of life, ranging from personal to social occasions, and from devotional to worldly experiences. Collectively, they guide one's invocation of God throughout daily life. An appendix, "Form and Substance: Qur'anic Calligraphy," briefly discusses the emergence and importance of writing in Islamic civilisation and the development of the art of calligraphy as inspired by the veneration of the Qur'an, for more than 50 calligraphic renderings (most of which are originals and previously unpublished) appear in this volume.
