Description :

Mishkat Media presents the Mawlid of al-Barzanji, one of the classics of traditional Islamic culture. It is a sung celebration of the birth and greatness of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, May Allah bless him and grant him peace, traditionally recited on the anniversary of his blessed birth.

Allah and His Angels bless the Prophet.

O you who believe, bless him and

salute him abdundantly!

(Holy Qur'an, Chapter 33 Verse 56)

Giving thanks for the Holy Prophet, May Allah bless him and grant him peace, is an obligation in Islam; and in this work, Imam Ja’far al-Barzanji, may Allah be pleased with him, (d.1764), a scholar of Kurdish origin who was born and studied in Madina, has given the world the most popular of all recitals of the Prophetic birth.

This recording of the Mawlid al-Barzanji was made in Cape Town, with the celebrated Mawlid Jama’at of the Al-Zawiya Mosque, under the direction of Shaykh Seraj Hendricks, formerly Chair of the Fatwa Committee of Cape Town. The film includes full English subtitles of the Arabic recitation.

The DVD also includes the following extra features :

:: Understanding the Mawlid by Shaykh Seraj Hendricks,

:: Interview with the Singers by George Warner,

:: Nkosi Sikeleli Africa by the Desert Rose Dhikr Choir,

:: Travelling Light Series III trailer.
