"The Practice of Spiritual Chivalry" New,
[A5+] Large Paperback - 320 pages,
by Laleh Bakhtiar,
Published by I.T.P.G. Chicago,
Institute of Traditional Psychoethics & Guidance.

Description :

Moral Healing through the Most Beautiful Names : The Practice of Spiritual Chivalry - this work shows the traditional method of spiritual chivalry (futuwwah) of assuming the positive traits or virtues of Godís Most Beautiful Names (al-Asma w'al-Husna).

Known as moral self-healing (attaining muruwwah), it occurs psychologically through three stages referred to in this work as three parts :

†† *** Part I. A translation of Imam al-Ghazaliís, may Allah be pleased with him, work on the Ninety-Nine Names, shows Theoethics, the Most Beautiful Names as only God can manifest them. This serves as the knowledge base.

†† *** Part II. Psychoethics shows the traditional method of processing that knowledge.

†† *** Part III. Socioethics shows the way to test the extent of having healed morally through our actions and improving our relations with others. Healing is effected through assuming Godís Most Beautiful Names to the extent of Godís Grace and what our own endeavour allow.

Synopsis :

Moral healing through assuming an individual spiritual warrior's portion of the 99 Most Beautiful Names (al-Asma w'al-Husna) is the major practice of the Sufi's who continuously self-examine their actions. The author explains the method in terms of† Theoethics, Psychoethics and Socioethics - Knowledge, Process and Action, as a spiritual warrior tries to become worthy of being of being the trustee of nature.

As the self becomes balanced, so the relationship to God and to all of nature including other human beings begins gaining balance. The image known in the West as the Enneagram - which the Sufi's call the sign of the presence of God (Wajh Allah). This serves as the inner guide to effect balance through Moral Healing.
