Description :
The Poem of the Cloak, known as the Burda in Arabic, is argubly the most memorised and recited poem in the Muslim world. Its subject is the meritious character and exalted rank of the Prophet Muhammad, upon him blessings and peace.
Written between 1260 and 1268 CE in Mamluke Egypt by the poet, scholar, and spritual master, Imam Sharaf ad-Din al-Busiri, may Allah be pleased with him, the poem is sublime in its Arabic.
'' It has been recited ever since throughout Muslim lands from
east to west and north to south, and has always been perceived
as containing great benefits, blessings and miracles. The rarified
and celestial Arabic language provided its author with a lingusitic
vehicle for its subtelty and loftiness.''
It is sung, in this new Sandala production, by the Fez Singers from Morocco, featuring Bennis Abdelfettah, and is the first first time the complete Burda has been made available in recorded form sung in traditional Andalusi style. It is accompanied here by a new and definitive English translation by Hamza Yusuf and specially comissioned Maghribi calligraphy by American master calligrapher Mohammed Zakariya.
This production includes 3 audio CD's and an 80 page casebound book in full colour with location photography by Peter Sanders. Part of the proceeds of this album will be donated to the madrassah of Bennis Muhammad in Fez and the Waqf of Imam al-Busiri, may Allah be pleased with him, in Alexandria.
