The work is a commentary (sharh) by Shaykh al-Islam Zakariyyah al-Ansari [d.926h], rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi, on the subject of Islamic etiquette (Adaab), specifically an explanation of the treatise wa-Haw Sharh ala Risalah al-Adab fi al-Baht wa al-Munazarah (Treatise on Etiquette in Research and Debate) by Imam Muhammad ibn Ashraf al-Samarqandi, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi.

He is Shaykh al Islam Abu Yahya Zakariyya ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Zakariyya al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, born in Sanika, Egypt, in 823/1420. He was known as the Shaykh of Shaykhs, he was the Shafi’i scholar of his time, a hadith master (hafiz), judge, and Qur'anic exegete. He was educated in Cairo in circumstances of extreme poverty but when his knowledge later won him fame and recognition, he was to receive many gifts and an appointment to the judiciary, which he spent to gather books, teach, and give financial help to the students with him.

He authoured many works in Sacred Law, the Sciences of the Qur'an and hadith, logic, Arabic, fundamentals of jurisprudence, and tasawwuf, and was the Shaykh of Imam Ibn Hajar al-Haytami, rahmatullahi ta'ala 'alayhi. He passed away in 926/1520 at one hundred years of age.
