Description :

Pakistan is unqiue among the nations of the world because it includes two regions which are over one thousand miles apart. When the British relinquished their Indian empire in 1947 the great subcontinent was, by the mutual conquest of its inhabitants, divided into two states: that of Pakistan, in which Muslims were in the majority, and that of India, in which hindus formed the bulk of the population. Since the heaviest concentrations of Muslims were in the east and in the west of the subcontinent, the separate areas of East Pakistan and West Pakistan came into being. Each area received vast throngs of Muslims from India proper, while many hindus migrated from their former homes to the new state of India.
