Description :

The Collected Ghazals of Hafiz : With the Original Farsi Text, English Translation, Transliteration and Notes. This amazing four-volume collection, together with the appendix, contains the 573 poems of the entire collection of ghazals of Hafiz of Shiraz presented by Wilberforce-Clarke.

This presentation of Hafizís Divan does not pretend to be a work of scholarship in any sense but is intended for the general reader with a genuine interest in mysticism and mystical poetry.

What Hafiz refers to in the verses in this book are mystical states, stations and intuitions that are as available to the mystics of today as they were to Hafiz in his lifetime. To turn these mystical insights into an approachable form of rhyming verse in modern English we have cast our relaince primarily on the universal and continuing presence of Hafiz himself; living, as he still is behind the veil of normal perception.

Accompanied by the original Farsi (Persian) and for those unable to read the original there is transliteration in Ďromaní script to aid the recitation in Farsi. With footnotes to elucidate the meaning further this is surely one of the most accessible books on Hafizís poetry ever published.

"Jamaluddin Morris Zahuri with this rendition of the book into English has done a great favour to the readers of the English language. This rendition is very close to the authentic text and is in a simple and lucid style, which has further embellished the work and made it as likeable as the original masterpiece." ---Inaam Hasan Gudri Shah Baba al-Chishti.

Shams al-Din Hafiz al Shirazi [d.791H /1389 CE] 'alayhi al-rahmah wa'l-ridwan,

He is Khawaja Shams al-Din Muhammad Ibn-i Muhammad, known as Hafiz, may Allah have mercy upon him. He was born into a merchant family of Shiraz, Iran, some time between 1321 and 1326 CE; he died in the same city around 1389 Common Era. The word "hafiz" means reciter. The poet chose this takhallus because, allegedly, he could recite the Qur'an in a number of different forms--fourteen according to his own poetry and seven according to his colleague and biographer, Muhammad Gulandam. Little is known about the formative years of Hafiz's life other than that he was orphaned at an early age and was employed by a baker as dough maker. What is known is that he was a scholar, an 'arif, a hafiz of the Qur'an and an exegete of the Book.
