Details:  Rijal : Narrators of the Muwatta al-Imam Muhammad, NEW,
*[A5] Paperback - 148 pages,
by Shaykh 'Abd al-Hayy al-Laknawi,
Translated by Abdasamad Clarke.

Description :

This book is a compilation from entries in at-Ta'liq al-Mumajjad - Shaykh Abd al-Hayy al-Laknawi's commentary on the Muwatta al-Imam Muhammad - which go into some detail on the narrators of the hadith and traditions in that book, most particularly their standing as scholars of hadith.

Since the majority of narrators here are among the great authorities of the Companions, the Followers (taba'in), and Followers of the Followers later confirmed by Imam al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim, may Allah be pleased with them, and the rest of the major hadith scholars, this work will prove indispensable for the serious student of the narrators of hadith.

The book is laid out alphabetically according to the English alphabet.

Shaykh 'Abd al-Hayy al-Laknawi, may Allah have mercy upon him, was born in Banda, India, in 1264 AH. He was a descendant of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him. He began to memorise the Qur'an at the age of five, completing it when he was ten years old, at which age he would often lead the tarawih prayers. He learnt both the intellectual and transmitted sciences from his father and completed his studies when he was seventeen, learning mathematics from his father's uncle and teacher Shaykh Muhammad Ni'matullah ibn Nurullah. The Shaykh had a great love for study and writing, and wrote more than 115 works on numerous sciences, among the most famous of which is at-Ta'liq al-Mumajjad. He passed away in 1304 AH at the age of 39.

Abdassamad Clarke is the translator of a number of classical works, including "The History of the Khalifahs Who Took the Right Way", based on Imam Jalaluddin As-Suyuti's "Târíkh Al-Khulafâ". It is a classical text presenting some of the most authentic traditions regarding the first four caliphs of Islam, the integrity and wisdom they displayed in their governance, and their contributions to that body of practice which is known to us as the Sunnah. Other books translated or written by Sidi Abdassamad include, "A Madinan View on the Sunnah", "The Clear Victory", "Year of the Elephant", "Drops from an Ocean" and Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani's manual on Maliki fiqh "Kitâb al-Jâmi.
